Business > How Companies Treat Work Place Diversity
Doing my research, I found two companies where diversity is a core value. The first company I will introduce is Intel, the second is IBM.
Intel Corporation is a leader in the computing and communications market.
Intel technology adds value to the lives of personal and business users-as corporate citizens in a global economy. They believe that opportunities to learn and participate in an increasingly technical world should be open to all people. They are committed to providing youth and under served communities with the tools and technologies they need. Diversity and multiculturalism is very important for Intel since they have more than 80,000 employees in over 45 nation
Intel holds memberships with several non-profit supplier diversity development organizations like:
The National Minority Supplier Development Council
The National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce
US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce
Women Business Enterprise National Council
I would like to work for Intel, for several reasons. Many women at Intel serve in key leadership positions, such as vice president or director of major divisions and it looks like the opportunities and the chance for progression can be limitless. Intel has offices in Hungary (I’m Hungarian) and the benefits package provides health care, insurance coverage, paid leave and employee development opportunities.
Intel’s Board of Directors a divers group: Out of nine people, one is African-American male, three are white female, one is Hispanic male, and four are white male.
IBM provides equal opportunity and affirmative action for applicants and employees, also carries out programs of behalf of women, minorities, people with disabilities, and disabled veterans.
IBM contributes to hundreds of groups, conferences, organizations and community programs and activities. Their efforts are organized on three platforms:
Equal opportunity –nondiscrimination, nonharassment
Affirmative action –everyone is allowed to compete on an equal basis
Work/Life –these programs help employees to balance the needs of the office and home
“The success of our business hinges on the marketplace.” Diversity is important for IBM because inside and outside the US, more IT buyers come from diverse ethnicities and backgrounds and represent more foreign customer bases.
IBM’s Board of Directors is a diverse group. Out of 13 people there is one white female, one Hispanic female, one African-American male, one Asian male, two Hispanic male and seven white male.
I think I would want to work for IBM, because their human resource programs ensure equity in compensation and opportunity for growth and development.
